Audition went well this afternoon, I caught up with an actor friend who used to train with the same acting coach that I did. Had Sonic (didn’t know there was a Sonic in ATX). Then went to SXSW orientation! The girl in front of me in line traveled from Toronto to volunteer and a group of guys behind me came from Europe! I’m excited 4 dis.
2 auditions today?! I was back at the Austin Studios lot this morning for an audition and then traveled downtown for my 2nd audition! I’m not liking missing class that much but love the things I’m being submitted for! I also had a really good vegetarian Ruben sandwich from a small food truck by the casting office and had a really good conversation with a teacher in ATX for SXSWedu! Really good day, lots of running around trying to catch the bus and changing clothes on a sidewalk in 34 degree weather. And tomorrow I got another audition, I’m liking this busy schedule!
So I’m not exactly happy about this but I’m in a production lab for three weeks for a festival of plays and it’s horrible. I’m the lighting board operator and my position is the only one required for all the shows. I took a look at the schedule and found out I’m working 92 hours until this is over. Monday thru Friday 6pm-10pm and Saturdays and Sundays 10am-10pm So from now until the Sunday of Spring break I have given my soul to the tech theatre gods. BUT I do (somewhat) enjoy being on the other side of things. I can see now how frustrating it is to work with actors that aren’t quiet or still when teching a show. My job only requires me to push a button when told so I’m not doing any table lifting or set piece moving. I get to watch some pretty awesome shows too. So that’s the happy part. Being part of something cool. I also think this will make spring break come faster. Cheers to hopefully a happy three weeks!
